Love it! July 10, 2009 Mimi 241 out of 245 found this review helpful
I have had this styler for about 6 months and I love it. I was skeptical at first, to say the least, but it has turned out to be my can't-live-without iron. I can style my shoulder length hair in 10 minutes, or less if I'm rushed, instead of 20 minutes with my other irons. I read through many web reviews before I bought it. Here are a few things that bothered people and my take on them:
*It is loud - Since it has a motor, it is not silent like the infomercials imply. Although it is a bit noisy, it is not loud enough to bother me.
*It burns - It does get HOT, even on the lowest setting and, yes, if you touch it you will get burned like with any other hair iron. You will probably get scorched a time or two or three..., as I did, especially when getting used to it. Be careful!
*It only rotates in one direction - This is true and it takes time to get used to. I have learned to use both my left and right hands to straighten my hair in the direction of the rotation. I slowed down a segment in the infomercial and one model smoothed her hair against the rotation. It turned out great, so I guess it's okay but I haven't tried it myself.
*It doesn't work on very short hair - This styler works wonders on my medium length hair but I cannot use it on my 2 inch long bangs. It makes them stick out weird. Based on that, I don't think those with very short hair would benefit from it unless they come out with a smaller barrel.
*Hair gets stuck in the barrel - This has never happened to me and I use it almost every day.
*Hair gets damaged - Most hot tools will cause some type of damage to hair. Although my hair does seem a little drier because I use the styler so often, my hairstylist says it is still healthy. I use conditioner and thermal spray to minimize damage.
While not perfect, this is the best styler I've ever used, hence the 5 stars. I am even getting one for my sister.
Best straightener I've ever had July 18, 2009 Lacy Davis (Crandall, IN United States) 56 out of 58 found this review helpful
I have extremely thick, course hair with a bit of a natural wave and a tendency to go a little crazy when it gets humid (which is always since I live in the Ohio River Valley). I've had many straighteners before, but the only time I've ever gotten the results I wanted was when I splurged and went to an exorbitantly expensive and exclusive salon and had the stylist spend over an hour hard at work with a professional, super-hot straightening iron. I never wanted to wash my hair again after that trip to the salon because I knew it would never look that good again...until I ordered my InStyler. Now I have that hair ever time I use it. I'm really pleased with the product. It does exactly what the infomercial promised.
Beware of FAKES I got a fake one and a real one to compare July 22, 2009 Olga Koval (CA) 27 out of 28 found this review helpful
I bought a fake Instyler on Ebay (unknowingly) and it sucked! Did not work correctly, made my hair a frizzy mess. Then I found a reputable seller on Ebay as well and bought a real one for $80 (offbetti is the seller's name) and IT IS AMAZING!!!!
I have frizzy damaged fine hair and on the lowest setting it took me 5 minutes to do my entire head with a result that looked as good as a salon blowout. I suck at blowdrying and straightening irons make my hair to fake-flat. But the Instyler polished it and gave me an amazing shiny flip on the ends. I just can't get over how great it works -- just like the infomercial.
Once again BEWARE OF FAKES!! ON THIS SITE AND ON EBAY
My new favorite flat iron :) November 19, 2009 C. A. Batten (Rochester, NY USA) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I absolutely adore this iron! I first saw it at Bed Bath and Beyond earlier this week and nearly bought it till I saw the price tag. With the holidays around the corner, I decided to hold off on this purchase but surprise surprise - I came home from work today to find it gift wrapped on my vanity (Thank you sweetie! I love you!).
I have very long, normal to baby fine hair (lots of it) and I love using flat irons to give my pin straight hair body. I know how to style my hair without any 'gimmicks' but I have to say that this rotating barrel along with the combined brushes really does make styling effortless and easy. I don't possibly understand how the other reviewer managed to singe her hair to the extent described. There are three different temperature settings for different hair textures. Use the chart/guidelines enclosed and you'll be fine. Unlike other irons, low heat actually does produce results (so if low is the recommended temperature, try it out before jumping to medium or high).
This iron gives great body, hair flipped out or in at the ends. I also curled a few sections of my hair with it (just to see the results) and it gave me super sexy wavy locks (think beach hair). I'll still keep my narrow flat iron on hand for creating baby doll spirals (yes, I use a flat iron to do that) - but the Instyler will become my every day 'go-to' styler and my trusty travel companion.
A few things to keep in mind... The barrel comes with a 'safety guard' to help prevent accidental burns. It's definitely helpful but it makes curling your hair a pain in the butt (difficult to wrap your hair around the barrel with the guard on). Removing the guard makes styling easier but definitely increases your risk of accidently burning yourself (for some reason, I'm compelled to reach up with my free hand and grab hold of the heated barrel). I think of the guard more as 'training wheels' as I will eventually get rid of it, but I can see how the guard as opposed to accidental burns might be frustrating to some who are already challenged at styling their own hair. I've also read a few reviews where people have claimed to have received fake/counterfeit irons from sellers on ebay. According to these reviews, the fake irons were shoddy or didn't work well or at all. As always, make sure you're purchasing from a reputable seller - you deserve to get your moneys worth.
Works great and straightens my hair November 20, 2009 M. Prieto (Florida) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought this device at the local BJ's and have fallen in love with it. I've got shoulder length hair that's frizzy and which is medium heavy in density. Well, normally I look like I have a lions mane of hair that's a nightmare and I end up with it in a ponytail. For the past two days, I've managed to flatten and somewhat curl my hair. I go carefully but I've found within 10 to 15 minutes my hair is nice and smooth.
The moving roller seems to work well and I've had no faulty issues with it. I'm quite happy actually as I normally hate curling irons and usually avoid doing anything to my hair. Normally, I wash it and let it dry for the next day. I never know if I'll wake up looking great or awful. :) Now, I always have a way to make it look good. The best part is, I've been able to get away from styling it daily. :)
I would definitely buy this again.
I must say though - don't buy this device if you have really short hair. It's not designed for super short hair. Also, Sally's Beauty supply sells a glove to protect your hand so you can wrap hair around the iron without burning yourself.
