Curly hair friendly October 4, 2008 A. Fall-Fry (Tallahassee, FL) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I have really curly thick hair (we're talking coffee stirrer sized coils) and this iron worked great. It's better than my Chi (and a fraction of the price). My hair feels great and, unlike when I use my CHI, it's straight from root to tip.
Leaves hair looking like you got it done at a salon July 10, 2008 Elissa A. Cabrera (Texas, USA) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
I love this straightner it makes my hair feel silky soft & smooth. Its great cause it removes the need for a blow dry. I love the way my hair looks everytime I use it!
Works for me March 8, 2009 Vandellyr 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
Got this about a month or so ago and I use it about 3 times a week on a low to middle setting for my fine hair. It straightens out my hair well wet or dry but it doesn't dry the wet hair in one pass, however, I wouldn't expect it to at the setting I use it at. It's easy to hold and I can even curl my bangs with it.
A far as quality of the product, it seems to be holding up pretty well. No peeling on the plates and it plastic housing seems to hold up. I like the location of the on/off switch with the temperature settings. They are tucked in enough to be out of the way while I work with it.
I think for the money it is a good match for me; especially when I can get the style I want (on dry fine hair that has some natural curl) in less than 5 minutes! Overall, I think if you're looking for something that does the job and isn't tough on the wallet, this is a pretty good deal.
My daughter loves this one! September 1, 2008 Cricket (Seattle, Wa) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
My daughter didn't get my curly hair, but she did get some wave. Unfortunately she doesn't like it and prefers to flat iron it most of the time. After her last one stopped working I agreed to purchase her a new one here on Amazon. We found this one in our searches and decided to go with it. I think she used it the first day it arrived and she was so HAPPY! It didn't compare to the one she had before, even I could see the difference. She really likes being able to use it both wet and dry in case she's running late for school. I think for the price we paid we got our moneys worth and I will look at Andis for future purchases.
I am really happy I didn't buy a CHI June 1, 2009 I<3Huskies (New Orleans, LA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
After reading the mixed reviews I was hesitant to buy this flat iron, but in the end I figured anything had to be better than my old $40 ceramic flat iron that only has an on/off switch. And this one was only $15.99.
I am very satisfied with this tourmaline ceramic flat iron (and very very happy I didn't waste my money on a $100+ CHI). There are several settings 1-20, in increments of 5. I have super curly fine hair and use the 10 setting. I could probably use an even lower setting and still get straight hair, this iron gets really hot. Using the tourmaline plates makes a big difference, my hair is not only soft and smooth, it doesn't easily frizz after I use it. And that is saying A LOT considering I live in New Orleans, and it really doesn't get much more humid than there.
One thing to note: While it may heat up in 30secs, it does not heat up to the 10 setting in 30secs. I timed it and it takes about 4mins to heat up to 10. But 4mins is not much time to wait. I also really like the fact that there's a red power light, and a green light that indicates when it is heating up and when it is ready to use. Also note that the plates go right up to the edges, and thus not only can you get really close to the roots to straighten, you can also easily burn yourself if you aren't careful.
I have not yet used the wet setting, but this flat iron looks like it could handle wet hair. I would definitely recommend buying this flat iron before spending $100+ on a CHI, and for 15.99 you can't go wrong.
